For those who have achieved their goals and are looking for a way to giveback, you can become a volunteer at SCORE. SCORE offers four different opportunities for working and retired professionals who have built companies or have been employees at companies. These roles are:
- Mentor: Offer confidential mentoring services over the phone, online, or in person
- Subject matter expert: Work with experienced mentors to offer knowledge in your specific area of expertise
- Workshop presenter: Host and lead local workshops, seminars, and events
- Administrative role: Work closely with the local SCORE chapter from a marketing, finance, scheduling, and administrative role
We have been asked, how do you calculate what to give back. This is pretty simple. If we perform a business valuation for you, we give $10.00 per business valuation. According to several research studies performed by SCORE each year, it costs around $120 to create a one job. As such, we have a goal of creating between 1-2 jobs a week through a donation to SCORE. Peak Business Valuation wants to create jobs and sees donating to SCORE has the best opportunity to do so. The most recent study performed by SCORE in 2019, showed that SCORE helped create 29,681 new businesses and 97,381 new jobs in the United States. The average cost to create one business in 2019 amounted to $394, and the average cost to create one job was around $120.
Here is one success story that we would love to share with you. In 2020, we had the opportunity to work with a SCORE mentor in New York. This mentor was working with an individual from the standpoint of understanding the SBA 7(a) loan process. This individual was looking to purchase the business. Due to Peak’s experience with providing business valuations for the purpose of SBA 7(a) loans, we were asked to assist the mentor and this individual. We were able to recommend to the individual six SBA lenders that would be happy to assist the mentor and the individual. In addition, we were able to help the individual understand the value of the Company and make a compelling offer to the seller of the business. Our managing partner, Ryan Hutchins, worked with the individual from the standpoint of explaining the acquisition process and how to go about negotiating the purchase price.
